the said act or acts to be in force, until the first day of May
next, and for which there shall be paid such sum of money for
the time that such license is to continue, as shall be in just pro-

SEC. 13. And be it enacted, That nothing herein contained,
shall be construed to extend to any importer of goods, wares
and merchandise, who does not break packages or sell the said
imported goods, wares and merchandise, in less quantity than
the cask, package, or other form in which the same was
imported.

 

CHAPTER 136.

AN ACT to provide for the cession of Territorial Jurisdiction, at Jane's
Island, in Somerset County, and at Clay Island, in Dorchester County,
for the erection of Light- houses thereon, or at such other point or points
in the said Counties as may be selected by the proper Officers of the
Government of the United States, for the erection of the said Light-
houses.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, applications have been made to the congress of the
United States, for the erection and establishment of light-houses
at Jane's Island, and at Clay Island, or at such other point or
points, in Somerset or Dorchester counties : And whereas, the

legislature only* appreciating the advantages to emanate from the
erection and establishment of the said light-houses, and particu-
larly with intent to avoid the difficulties and dangers incident to
the navigation of Tangier Sound, during the night, and
disposed to promote the achievement of objects so much desired
by the good people of this state : wherefore,

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Man/land,
That in case an act or acts, of the congress of the United States
authorizing the erection and establishing of a light-house or
light-houses, at either one, or more, of the places, or points,
designated in the preamble of this act, commissioners shall be,
and the same are hereby appointed with power to fill vacancies,
if any should occur in their body, to fix and determine the
value of the land which may be selected by the United States
for the purpose or purposes, aforesaid.
SEC. 2, 4, 5. Are directory to the commissioners, and ascertained their
per diem.

vided for.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the right of jurisdiction of
the state of Maryland, in and over the land aforesaid, be, and
the same is hereby relinquished, ceded and made over to the
United States aforesaid, for the purposes aforesaid.
