January, in each and every year thereafter, to appoint three in-
spectors for the warehouses provided for by this act, and that
each of the said inspectors shall be entitled to an annual salary
of fifteen hundred dollars, to be paid quarterly by the treasurer,
out of the annual revenue accruing to the state by virtue of
this act.

Four inspectors are now to be appointed by the act of 1837, ch. 43,
and their salaries are $1,200 each.

 

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the warehouses and inspec-
tors established and appointed by this act, shall be, and they
are hereby rendered subject to all the regulations and provisions
of the several acts of assembly relating to the inspection of
tobacco in the city of Baltimore, except such as are inconsistent
with or repugnant to the provisions of this act.

Regula-
tions.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the owner or owners of each
and every hogshead of tobacco inspected at the houses autho-
rized by this act, shall pay to the inspector or inspectors of the
houses at which such hogshead may be inspected, one dollar
for each hogshead inspected, for the cooperage thereof, on the
delivery of the note for such hogshead, and that the purchaser
or the owner of each hogshead, shall also pay to said inspector
before removing the same from said warehouse, the further sum
of one dollar twenty-five cents, for inspection, outage, porterage
and sealing.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That each inspector who may be
appointed by virtue of this act, shall enter into bond to the state
of Maryland, with good and sufficient sureties, to be approved of
by the governor and council, in the penal sum of thirty thou-
sand dollars, conditioned for the true and faithful discharge of
his duties as inspector, which arise out of this act, or of any
other supplementary act that the legislature may hereafter pass.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted. That it shall be, and is hereby
made the duty of each inspector to account for and pay under
oath to the treasurer of the western shore, monthly, all such
moneys as may be paid to him under the provisions of this act,
with an account of the number of hogsheads of tobacco in-
spected and delivered out by him during the month for which
his return is made, and that such bond shall be recorded in the
office of Baltimore county court, within twenty days after the
same is approved, and that a copy of the same, under the seal
of said court, shall be as good and sufficient evidence in any
court in this state as the original would be if produced and
legally proved.
By 1826, ch. 176, returns to be made by the inspectors quarter-yearly.
