CHAPTER 64.

AN ACT to abolish an useless expense attending Jury Trials.

Restriction

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
from and after the first day of September next, it shall not be
lawful for any jury or juror, to receive any allowance or fee for
hearing a cause, or for giving his or their verdict, in any cause

Proviso.

which may be tried in any of the courts of this state ; Provided
always, that nothing in this act contained, shall be in any wise
taken or construed to affect the rights of jurors to their daily
allowance as settled and ascertained by the several acts of
assembly in that behalf made and provided.

CHAPTER 87.
A SUPPLEMENT to an ACT, entitled, a Supplement to the Act entitled, an
Act relative to Negroes and Slaves.

Preamble*

WHEREAS, special acts of legislation to authorize the removal
of slaves into this state have been numerous and of course
greatly expensive to the state ; And whereas, no great incon-
venience can occur from a general law embracing most of such
cases — Therefore,

allowed.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That if
any citizen of this state hath acquired or shall acquire property
in any slave or slaves being residents of any of the United
States, by marriage, bequest, course of distribution, or as
guardian, or by gift, or in any other lawful manner, such
citizen may at any time remove and bring such slave or slaves
for the purpose only of working or employing such slave or
slaves within this state, for his own immediate service and not

for any other purpose: Provided, that a list of such slave or
slaves be rendered in the manner directed by the act of seven-
teen hundred and ninety-six, chapter sixty-seven, and the act
of eighteen hundred and four, chapter ninety, and the act of
eighteen hundred and eighteen, chapter two hundred and one,
to which this act is a supplement: And provided also, that the
owner or owners of such slave or slaves shall have the right to
sell such slaves after such slaves have been residents for three
years within this state ; Provided, that no slave so imported
shall be manumitted within three years after the time of such
importation.

CHAPTER 120.
A SUPPLEMENT to the ACT to regulate the manner of obtaining and
altering Public Roads in this state.
Other laws are, 1818, ch. 89, ante page 687; 1829, ch. 234, 238.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, doubts are entertained whether the act to which
this is a supplement, has authorized the county courts to make
public landing places in the several counties ; — Therefore,
