use of the county.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That this act and all former acts
relating to the same subject, shall be given in charge of the
grand juries of Saint Mary's, Charles and Prince George'a
counties, and that the said juries be instructed to indict as for
a misdemeanor, all persons offending against said laws, and the
court shall proceed to try and punish such offenders by fine
and imprisonment.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That all provisions of any former
act upon the same subject inconsistent with this law, be, and
the same are hereby repealed.

AN ACT, entitled, an Act to alter and amend the Constitution so far as
relates to the power of the Legislature to grant Lotteries. — 1839,
ch. 291.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and after the confirmation of this act by the next
legislature of this state, no new grant to authorize the drawing
of any lottery, or the traffic or dealing in lottery tickets, or
schemes or devices in the nature of lotteries, or the distribu-
tion of money or property by chance, shall be made.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That all such parts of the consti-
tution and form of government, as are inconsistent with the
provisions of this act, are hereby repealed ; Provided, this act
be published at least three months before the next October
election, and shall be confirmed by the general assembly after
the next election, as the form of government and constitution
directs.

AN ACT, entitled, a Supplement to an Act, entitled, an Act for the more
effectual protection of Public Worship in this State. — 1839, ch. 293.

WHEREAS, it has been found by experience that the laws at
present in force are not sufficient to secure to religious commu-
nities in this state, that liberty of conscience and freedom from
molestation in the worship of God, guaranteed by the constitu-
tion to every citizen ; the more effectually, therefore, to attain
so desirable an object,

Preamble.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That all that portion of the act of eighteen hundred and twenty-
four, chapter fifty-three, which requires any person or persons
offending against the provisions of said act to be informed that
he, she or they are violating said act, and warned to desist from
such violations, and that portion of said act which requires the
intervention and assistance of two freeholders of the county in
which such offence shall or may have been committed, in seiz-
ing and taking possession of the property declared by said act
