hereby authorized and empowered to levy upon the taxable
property of said county, such sum or sums of money, as may
be sufficient to defray the expenses that have been incurred by
any citizen, or citizens, or corporation in said county, in mak-
ing provision for the accommodation and attendance of the poor
of said county, who were attacked by the cholera ; the ac-
counts or claims presented, to be in every case satisfactorily
vouched for.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the said commis-
sioners be, and they are hereby authorized and empowered in
cases of like visitations by epidemics, in future, in said county,
to provide for the payment of all expenses that may occur in
procuring temporary hospitals, and the attendance to the poor
of said county, who shall become the victims of such epidemic
or epidemics.

WHEREAS, it is desirable that a more general diffusion of
information should be made of the proceedings of the commis-
sioners of Washington county in this state ; therefore,

Preamble.
|
Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the commissioners of Washington county be, and they are
hereby authorized and required to cause a correct and fair
copy of their levy list to be made out, shewing the amount of
levy, and the objects for which the same was made respec-
tively, and to cause the same to be published in at least two ol
the public newspapers printed in said county, for at least three
successive weeks previous to the first Monday in October next,
and so in like manner in each and every year thereafter, in
addition to the duties they are now required to perform by
the act to which this is a supplement.

WHEREAS, no provision is made in the law passed at De-
cember session, eighteen hundred and twenty-nine, chapter
twenty-one, giving to the people of Washington county the
right to choose their county commissioners by ballot, to deter-
mine in case of tie between two or more of the candidates for
the said office of county commissioner ; And whereas, it appears
from the returns of the judges of election for Washington
county, that at the last October election there was a tie be-
tween two of the candidates for said office of county commis-
