Repealing
clause.
|
Sec. 8. And be it enacted, That all laws of this state incon-
sistent with the provisions of this act, be, and the same are
hereby repealed, so far as the same relates to Somerset county.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the commissioners for Somerset county be, and they are
hereby empowered and directed to appoint on, or before the
first Monday of June next, and annually thereafter, seven wise
and discreet persons in each election district of said county,
to be styled and called the Trustees for the Education of Poor
Children for Somerset county, and shall notify each trustee of
his appointment ; and in case of the death, resignation, remo-
val, or disqualification of any of said trustees, then and in that
case, the said commissioners shall proceed to fill up said va-
cancy, or vacancies.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said trustees, or a majo-
rity of them, as soon as convenient after their appointment,
shall make a census of the poor children in the election dis-
trict of which they are trustees, of the proper age to go to
school, describing their names, ages and sex, whose parents are
unable to pay for the tuition of such children, and said census

shall be reported to the commissioners of said county, as soon
as may be by said trustees, and filed and recorded in the pro-
ceedings of said commissioners, and said trustees shall annually
thereafter, on or before the first day of May, return a new
census of the poor children as aforesaid, within their election
districts as aforesaid, and said trustees shall have power to

adjourn from day to day, and make such rules and regulations
as they may deem requisite to carry into effect the object of
this act.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the treasurer of the western
shore be, und he is hereby authorized and required to pay
over to the order of the commissioners for Somerset county all
sums of money which are now or may hereafter be apportioned
to Somerset county, out of the common or free school fund, or
funds of the state, or which may be apportioned to said county
out of the interest in the state's portion of the surplus fund of
the United States, or which said county may be entitled to re-
ceive from the state for common school purposes from any fund
whatever.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the commissioners for So-
merset county be, and they are hereby directed to depositc in
the Bank of Salisbury, within twenty days after its reception,
all sums of money which may or shall come into their posses-
