CROWS AND SQUIRRELS.
AN ACT for the destruction of Crows and Squirrels in Queen Anne's
County.— 1797, ch. 5.

 

WHEREAS, it has been represented to this general assembly,
by the petition of sundry inhabitants of Queen Anne's county,
that they sutler very extensive injury from the ravages com-
mitted on their crops by crows and squirrels ; and the said in-
habitants have prayed that a law may pass to encourage their
destruction,

Preamble.

SEC. 1 . Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That if any person residing in Queen Anne's county shall
carry to any justice of the peace of the said county the head or
heads of any crow or crows, or the scalp or scalps of any
squirrel or squirrels, such person shall be allowed, in the levy
of the said county, for every crow's head the sum of six cents,
and for every squirrel's scalp the sum of three cents, and the
justice of the peace before whom such head or heads, scalp or
scalps, shall be brought, is hereby required to give the person
bringing the same a certificate thereof, and cause the said head
or heads, scalp or scalps, to be burnt, or otherwise destroyed.

Fertons to
be allowed,
&c.

SEC. 3. Provided nevertheless, and be it enacted, That no
person shall be entitled to any allowance for any such head or
beads, scalp or scalps, without first making oath or affirmation,
as the case may bo, or otherwise satisfy the said justice, that
such crow or crows, squirrel or squirrels, was or were killed
in the said county, and that no certificate hath been obtained
from any other justice of the peace for the same ; and that it
shall be the duty of each and every justice of the peace before
whom such head or heads, scalp or scalps, shall or may be
brought in virtue of this act, to take and receive the oath, or
affirmation, of the person bringing the same, free and clear
from all charges against the person making such oath, or affir-
mation, any thing to the contrary hereof in any law notwith-
standing.

Proviso.

SEC. 4. This act to continue and be in force till the twentieth
day of October, eighteen hundred.
See ante page 1730, for the public general law, encouraging the killing of
crows. I do not find that this act is modified as to squirrels.

COUNTY COURT.

AN ACT to change the time of holding the November term of Queen Anne's
County Court.— 1829, ch. 34.

Duration.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That so much of an act of assembly, passed at December ses-
sion, eighteen hundred and twenty-eight, chapter one hundred
and eighty-two, as relates to the holding of Queen Anne's
county court, on the third Monday in the month of November,
be and the same is hereby repealed.
