county, as are mentioned and declared in the said original act
to which this is a supplementary act, except the power of ap-
pointing new trustees, or filling up casual vacancies in their
own board, and except so far as the same may be varied or
limited by the provisions of this act ; and the alms or work-
house situated in the same county, and the lands, tenements,
goods and chattels, thereunto appertaining and belonging, shall
be, and the same are hereby vested in the trustees of the poor
of the said county, and their successors, in that capacity, to be
appointed in virtue of this act, to and for the uses and purposes
mentioned and declared in this act, and the original act to
which this is a supplementary act.

 

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That in all cases of vacancies
happening by non-acceptance, death, resignation, removal out
of the county, or disqualification, of any of the said trustees,
the vacancies thereby occasioned shall be filled up by the levy
court of said county, at their next meeting which shall happen
thereafter.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That it shall he the duty of the
trustees for the poor to be appointed in virtue of this act,
under the penalty of fifty dollars each, to be recovered and
applied as herein before directed, to make out and render to
the said levy court, at their first meeting in the month of
March in each and every year, a statement of their accounts
and expenditures, with the necessary vouchers for the preced-
ing year ; which accounts shall be passed and settled by the
said levy court, previous to the making the new appointments
of trustees for the ensuing year.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That all accounts settled by the
overseer of the poor with the trustees, shall be on oath, (or
affirmation,) that they are just and true, which oath, (or affir-
mation,) shall be administered by anyone of the trustees; and
the said overseer shall, at the expiration of each and every
year, return to the said trustees, on oath, (or affirmation,) a fair
and regular account in writing, of all the stock, farming uten-
sils, and other things now remaining in his hands, or which
may come to his hands aforesaid, together with a statement of
the crop and other articles made on the estate of the said alms
or work-house, and an account of all the expenses and charges
attending the maintenance and support of the poor in said alms
or work-house, and of all moneys received by him for the sales
of the produce of their labour and otherwise; which said state-
ments and accounts the trustees are hereby directed to lay
before the levy court at their said annual meeting.
