SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the
trustees of each of the respective school districts aforesaid, as
soon as practicable after the passage of this act, to acquire by
purchase, or gift, a site of not less than one acre of land at or
near the place fixed upon by the commissioners aforesaid, or
at some central point within the limits of said districts, to be
secured by deed, or otherwise, to said trustees, and their
successors in office, for the use of said schools, and to cause

to be erected thereon a comfortable school-house of sufficient
dimensions for the convenient accommodation of at least thirty

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the treasurer of the western
shore, be, and he is hereby authorized and required, as soon as
practicable after the passage of this act,*to convert into cash, by
sale or otherwise, the invested school funds of Charles county,

the credit of the orphans court of said county, for the purposes

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That with a view to enable the
trustees of the several district schools aforesaid, to carry into
effect the provisions of the second section of this act, the
orphans court of said county, be, and is hereby authorized and
required, as soon after the first day of June next as the trus-
tees of any of said district schools may have entered into a
written contract for the purchase of a site, and the erection of
a school-house thereon, and made the 6ame appear to the satis-
faction of the said court, to draft in favour of said trustees, on

the Farmers' Bank of Maryland, for a sum not exceeding three
hundred dollars, to be applied by the said trustees to the pay-
ment of the site and the erection of the school-house thereon,
