limits to keep such portion in repair, to report the same to the
next levy court ; and it shall in such case be lawful for the
said levy court to levy on the assessable property of said
county, such sum not exceeding one hundred dollars, as they
shall deem it expedient to contribute toward the repairing
such road.

 

SEC. 4. And be it enacted. That should any overseer as
aforesaid neglect to report as aforesaid, he shall be subject to
the same penalty to be recovered in the same manner as pre-
scribed for neglect of duty in the sixth section of the act to
which this is a supplement.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the overseers to be ap-
pointed by virtue of this act shall respectively be allowed a
sum not exceeding sixteen dollars a year for discharging the
duties imposed by this act; which allowance shall be paid to
them in the same manner as heretofore provided.

A SUPPLEMENT to an ACT, entitled, an Act relating to the Public Roads
in the several Counties therein mentioned, passed at November session,
eighteen hundred and twenty. — 1833, ch. 195.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the justices of the levy court of Charles county, be, and
they are hereby authorized at their annual meeting, on the
first Monday in April, in each and every year, to contract
with the lowest bidder for the repairs of the public roads of
said county or any part thereof, as in their discretion they may
deem best and most conducive to the public interest, and to
appoint overseers for such parts of said roads as they may not
see fit to put out on contract in the manner now authorized by
law.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the
clerk of the levy court, when required by said court to give
notice in writing, at least three weeks before the said first
Monday in April annually, at not less than three of the most
public places in each election district in said county, that the
different sections of the public roads as now laid off to the
several overseers of said county, will be offered to the lowest
bidder in the town of Port Tobacco, on the first Monday in
April next, ensuing.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That whenever any section or
portion of the said roads shall be put out on contract, the per-
son contracting therefor shall file with the clerk of the levy
court of said county, a written contract or instrument of writ-
ing, designating the part or section of the said public road con-
tracted for, and the terms of said contract, and each and every
