CALVERT COUNTY.

 

and subscribed the oath, or affirmation, herein before described,
all the powers, rights and privileges, lawfully exercised by,
and all property, estates and effects, vested in the justices of
the levy court of Calvert county, shall be transferred to, and
vested in, the commissioners for Calvert county, who, or any
three of them, shall thereafter exercise all the powers, rights
and privileges, and shall perform all the duties required by
the existing laws to be performed by the said justices of the
levy court of Calvert county, and no appointment of justices of
the levy court shall hereafter be made ; and all the powers
lawfully exercised by, or vested in, the commissioners of the
tax for Calvert county, and all the duties required by law to be
performed by them, shall be vested in, and exercised and per-
formed by the said commissioners for Calvert county, after they
shall have become qualified as aforesaid.

To appoint

SEC. 5. And be if enacted. That the commissioners for Cal-
vert county shall, at their annual meeting, appoint a fit and
proper person, who shall transact all the business, and dis-
charge all the duties now appertaining to the seveial and
respective officers of clerk of the levy court, and commission-
eis of the tax, in the same manner as the clerk of Calvert
county, and the clerk of the commissioners of the tax for said
county, are now by law severally authorized and required to
transact the same ; and the person so appointed shall, before
he enters upon the duties of his office, execute a bond to the
state of Maryland, to be approved by the said commissioners,
in the penalty of one thousand dollars, conditioned for the true
and faithful performance of the several and respective duties
hereby imposed ; which bond shall be recorded in the clerk's
office of the county court of said county, and a copy thereof,
under the seal of said court, shall be as sufficient evidence as
the original ; and the said clerk, when appointed, shall also
take and subscribe the following oath, or affirmation, as the
case may be, to wit: I, A. B. do swear, or affirm, that as clerk
to the commissioners for Calvert county, I will honestly and
faithfully, to the best of my skill and judgment, execute the
duties of said office, without favour, affection or prejudice, so
help me God ; which oath, or affirmation, any one of said com-
missioners is hereby authorized to administer ; and the said
clerk shall be subjected to the same penalties and forfeitures
for non-performance or neglect of official duty, as are pte-
scribed by the existing laws in relation as well to the several
matters and things which the clerk of the county court of said
county is legally directed and required to perform, under the
authority of the levy court, as likewise to those which apper-
tain to the office of the present clerk of the commissioners of
the tax for said county.
