BALTIMORE COUNTY.

 

AN ACT, entitled, a further Supplement to the Act of eighteen hundred
and twenty-six, chapter two hundred and seventeen, and the several
supplements thereto, in relation to the electing Commissioners for Balti-
more County .—1838, ch. 201.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, by an act passed at December session, eighteen
hundred and twenty-six, chapter two hundred and seventeen,
providing for the election of commissioners for Baltimore county,
and transferring the powers and duties of the commissioners of
ta,x and that of the levy court of Said county; And whereas,
the powers and duties are very important to the people of said
county, inasmuch as they are vested with the entire control of
the police of said county, and the levying and collecting taxes,
and disbursing the same to the amount of more than thirty
thousand dollars per annum ; And whereas, by the several sup-
plements heretofore passed, their powers have been very much
expanded and our expenses increased in a very great degree,
we therefore deem it necessary to re-model and more fully con-
dense the system ; therefore,

SEC.I. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and after the passage of this art, whenever a vacancy
may happen in the board of commissioners for Baltimore county,
by death, resignation, or by expiration of service, the vacancy

care to confine the choice to be made to the commissioners'

before some person propeily qualified to administer the same:
You, J. H. do make oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty
God, that you will honestly and faithfully inquire into all
things touching the interest of the citizens of Baltimore
county, and that you will act in all cases connected with your
duty according to law, without favour, partiality, or prejudice,
to the best of your skill and ability, so help you God ; which
oath shall be made a part of the proceedings of said board and
recorded by the clerk of said board.

His duties.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the
said commissioners to appoint a suitable and competent person,
who shall act as cleik and treasurer, whose duty it shall be to
make wit and keep a true and correct record of the proceedings
of the commissioners at their stated meetings, from time (o
time, shewing fully the number of days each member of said
board necessarily attended on the business of the board.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted. That the said clerk, so chosen,
shall act as treasurer of Baltimore county, and in every respect
