and personal property in Baltimore county, out of the limits of
the city.

 

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the commissioners aforesaid,
may at their discretion, either appoint an additional clerk, or
allow their clerk such additional compensation for the services
which it may be necessary for him to perform under their direc-
tion, in consequence of the valuation authorized by this act, as
they shall deem reasonable and just.

COLLECTORS.
AN ACT to provide for a new Assessment, and to appoint Collectors of
the County Tax, in and for the City and County of Baltimore. — 1817,
ch. 142.

 

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the levy court of said county
shall annually appoint seven collectors of the county tax, one
for each election district, and as many for the city of Baltimore
as they may think necessary, and the said collectors shall
severally give bond to the state of Maryland, in such penalty,
and with such security as the said court shall prescribe and
approve, conditioned for the faithful discharge of their duties as
such, which bonds shall be recorded in Baltimore county court,
upon which suits may be brought by the said court, or any per-
son or which persons interested therein, and copies thereof,
under the seal of office, shall be evidence in all cases whatever.
The power of appointment is transferred to the county commissioners.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said collectors shall
each and every of them finish and complete the collections of
such of the assessments as may be placed in their hands, by
the time prescribed by law, or assigned by the said court for the
completion of the same, and shall pay and account for the same
in such manner and at such times as the said court shall direct
or appoint.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said collectors shall be
allowed such commission for collection as the said court shall
consider right and proper, not exceeding six per centum on the
amount collected in the city, and seven per centum on the
amount collected in the county.
Modified as to the county, by 1838, ch. 201, sec. 5, which limits the
maximum to be paid to the collector to seven percent.
The other sections are merged in subsequent acts, relating to the gaol
and county commissioners.

A further SUPPLEMENT to an ACT, entitled, an Act to provide for a new
Assessment and to appoint Collectors of the County Tax, in and for the
City and County of Baltimore.-- 1823, ch. 53.
