they may think proper, and said inspector or inspectors shall be

 

governed by the same rules in regard to his or their inspection,

 

and be entitled to the same fees as are herein provided for the

 

inspector or deputy inspector; and if any person or persons

 

shall inspect, mark or brand, any fish within this state, without

 

being appointed and commissioned as herein piovided, and con-

 

trary to the true intent and meaning of this act, he, she or they,

 

shall for every offence forfeit and pay the sum of fifty dollars, to

 

be recovered by indictment in the name of the state, one-half for

 

the benefit of the informer, the other half to be for the use of

 

the state.

 

A SUPPLEMENT to an ACT, entitled, an Act to regulate the Inspection of

 

Salted Fish.— 1817, ch. 170.

; SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That nothing contained in the ninth section of the act to which
this is a supplement, shall be construed to prevent any person
or persons sending any fish from the fisheries on the Potomac,
to any of the ports of export either in Virginia or the Distiict
of Columbia, there to be subject to such inspection as may be

 

provided by the regulations at said ports.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That the several inspectors who
may be appointed under the said original fict, and their depu-
ties, shall brand their names on each ban el of fish by them
inspected, and also the name of the place for which they may

 

be appointed, and they shall keep an exact account of all fish

 

by them inspected, and make a quarteily return thereof to the

 

governor and council, in which return they shall state the

 

kinds and qualities of fish by them inspected.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That for every certificate, required
by the ninth section of the act to regulate the inspection of
salted fish, from the inspector, or his deputy, as therein speci-

 

fied, the master or owner so requiting it shall pay to the said

 

inspector or his deputy one dollai* for the same.

 

*By 1818, ch.99, instead of this sum the master or owner is to pay one

 

and an half cents for every barrel, half barrel or tierce of fish, mentioned

 

in the certificate.

 

A further SUPPLEMENT to the ACT, entitled, an Act to regulate the

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That nothing contained in the first section of the act to which
this is a supplement, in relation to the size of fish barrels, shall
prevent the same barrels from being passed in case they are of
the following dimensions, to wit : the staves thereof shall be
twenty-eight inches in length, and half an inch thick, the dia-
meter of the cut head shall be seventeen inches and five-eighths
