BALTIMORE CITY.

 

by a reference to either time or distance — both of which are un-

 

certain, and difficult to be ascertained with any kind of precision,

 

and consequently, would afford a constant subject of dispute ;

 

to avoid which, and to introduce as much precision as practi-

 

cable into the rate of fare, and to make it intelligible by a

 

glance at the printed card, which the law requires to be placed

 

in the coach, the commissioners have made the following ar-

 

rangements and classification.

 

1. From steamboats and rail road depots to any part of the

 

city.

 

2. To steamboats and rail road depots.

 

3. Within certain prescribed limits, east, west, north and south

 

from Calvert street, the centre of the city.

 

4. By the hour.

 

5. Evening and night.

 

6. Between the Exchange and Fell's Point.

 

The commissioners herewith return the table of rates for the

 

transportation of baggage and passengers, and of ei ther, arranged

 

under the foregoing heads, with some general explanatory rules.

 

All which is respectfully submitted.

RATES OF FARE for the use of hackney coaches in the city

 

of Baltimore, fixed and determined by the commissioners

 

appointed by the mayor, under the act of the general assem-

 

bly of Maryland, passed 1837.

 

STEAMBOATS AND RAIL ROAD DEPOTS.

 

1st. From any steamboat landing or rail road depot, to any

 

hotel or private residence within the limits of the city, for a

 

single passenger, ..... 50 cents.

 

If two or more, each, ..... 37 1/2 "

 

And for qach trunk, box or bag, of sufficient size

 

to be strapped on, ..... 12 1/2 "

 

No charge for small parcels put in the carriage.

 

TO ANY STEAMBOAT OR RAIL ROAD DEPOT.

 

3d. The same fare and charge for baggage, with an addition

 

of fifty cents for the carriage only when sent for from the stable.

 

CITY.

 

3d. Within the following limits, assuming Calvert street as

 

the centre of the city, and extending east to Canal street, west

 

to Green street, south to Great Montgomery street, and north to

 

Biddle street, for a single passenger, . . 37 1/2 cents

 

If two or more, each . .... 25 "

 

If beyond these limits, and any where within the city

 

boundary, twelve and half cents additional for each passenger.
