CHAPTER 337.
|
|
AN ACT relating to the Armories of this State.
|
|
Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
|
Examiners,
|
the governor be, and he is hereby authorized, at such times as
|
to report.
|
he may deem it necessary, to employ two competent persons, in
|
|
the neighbourhood of each of the Armories of this state, whose
|
|
duty it shall be to make out and return to the secretary of state,
|
|
an accurate inventory of the arms, ammunition and other public
|
|
property therein, together with the condition and value of said
|
|
arms, &c. and the persons so employed, shall be entitled to two
|
|
dollars each, for every day while they shall be actually engaged
|
|
on the duty aforesaid.
|
|
CHAPTER 361.
|
|
AN ACT requiring the Sheriffs of the several Counties of this State to
|
|
serve separately each writ of capias ad respondendum, in their respec-
|
|
tive hands against the same Defendant, where the said writs are return-
|
|
able to the same term.
|
|
Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
|

from and after the passage of this act, it shall be the duty of
|
directed.

the sheriffs of the several counties of this state, and they are
|
|
hereby required, to serve separately, each writ of capias ad re-
|
|
spondendum, in their respective hands against the same defen-
|
|
dant, where the said writs are returnable to the same term.

CHAPTER 375.
|
|
AN ACT, entitled, an Act to Prevent the Transportation of People of
|
|
Colour, upon Rail Roads or in Steamboats.
|
|
WHEREAS, it has been represented to this general assembly,
|

that the owners of slaves in this state have suffered great loss
|
|
by the facilities of escape, afforded to slaves by means of rail
|
|
roads and steamboats ; therefore, for remedy of said evil,
|
|
SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
|

That it shall not be lawful for any slave to be transported on
any rail road, chartered by this state, or any steamboat, tow-
boat, or other vessel navigating The waters of this state, without

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That if any slave or slaves shall
escape from his or their owner or owners, by being transported
on said rail roads, or in said steamboats, tow-boats, or other ves-
