CHAPTER 169.

A 'further SUPPLEMENT to the ACT, entitled, an Act for the Education
of the Deaf and Dumb, of this State.

Reports
required.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
from and after the passage of this act, it shall be the duty of the
levy courts, or the commissioners of the several counties of this
state, and of the mayor and city council of Baltimore, to inquire
into and make a return to the governor of this state, on the first
Monday in May, annually, of the names of all the deaf and dumb
white persons of sound mind, in their respective counties and
city, from nine to twenty-one years of age, who are in indigent
circumstances, or whose private fortunes, in the opinion of said
levy courts or county commissioners, are insufficient to afford
them an opportunity of removing to the Pennsylvania institu-
tion for the deaf and dumb, to be there educated, and that so
much of the original act, to which this act is a further supple-
ment, as is inconsistent with the provisions of this act, be, and
the same is hereby repealed.

 

CHAPTER 180.

AN ACT for the benefit of persons Hiring or Renting Stoves.

from elecu-
lion.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That any stove or stoves that now are or may hereafter be rented
or hired to any person or persons within this state, shall be and
are hereby exempt (in the hands of the person or persons so
hiring or renting the same,) from all executions for debt or pub-
lic taxes, and from all distress for rent due, or that may become
due from the person or persons so hiring or renting such stove
or stoves, provided the contract for renting or hiring such stove
or stoves shall be in writing, signed by the parties to the con-
tract, and acknowledged before one justice of the peace within
the district wherein the parties reside, and the said justice of the
peace, before whom the said acknowledgement hath been made,

is hereby required to enter upon his docket, that the said A and
B appeared before him and duly acknowledged an agreement,
setting forth that A had rented or hired a stove or stoves, as the
case may be, to B, for a certain time therein named ; witness my
hand, this —— clay of —— eighteen hundred and —— .

Fee.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said justice, for taking
the said acknowledgment and docketing the same, shall receive
twelve and a half cents.

Repeal.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the act of assembly, passed
December session, eighteen hundred and sixteen, chapter two
hundred and ten, relating to renting or hiring stoves, be, and
the same is hereby repealed.
