danger of being shot when engaged in their ordinary vocations,
by persons firing off guns of immense size, from floats, regard-
less of what direction they give them ; therefore, to -remedy the
evils above complained of,

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland , That
no person shall hereafter, in any of the waters of the Potomac
river, or any of its tributary streams, shoot at wild fowl during
the night time, with a gun of any description, unless it be
from the land, or a blind fixed on some bar in said waters ;
nor shall any person, at any time, either in the day or in the
night, shoot any description of gun from skiffs, or other boats,
which may not be conveniently discharged from the shoulder at
arm's length, without a rest; and any person convicted of a

violation of this act, before any magistrate of any county ad-
joining the waters or water courses in which the offence may be
committed, shall forthwith surrender his gun to the magistrate,
who shall cause the same to be sold, and the proceeds to be
paid, one-half to the levy court of the county aforesaid, and the
other half to the informer, and in case of refusal by the offender
to surrender his gun as required, it shall be the duty of the ma-
gistrate to commit said offender to the public jail of the county,
there to remain thirty days, if the surrender is not sooner made.

 

CHAPTER 142.

 

AN ACT to repeal an Act, entitled, an Act to abolish Imprisonment for
Debt, on certain Judgments rendered by Justices of the Peace, passed
at December session, eighteen hundred and thirty, chapter one hundred
and fifty-five.

Act
repealed.

Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
from and after the passage of this act, the act, entitled, an act to
abolish imprisonment for debt on certain judgments rendered
by justices of the peace, passed at December session, eighteen
hundred and thirty, chapter one hundred and fifty-five, be, and
the same is hereby repealed.

 

CHAPTER 145.
A SUPPLEMENT to an ACT, entitled, an Act relating to the People of
Colour in this State, passed at December session, eighteen hundred
and thirty-one, chapter two hundred and eighty-one.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That whenever the board of managers, appointed under the act
to which this is a supplement, shall inform the sheriff of any
county, of the refusal to remove any person or persons therein
