LAWS OF MARYLAND.— 1830,

Adjutant-
general to
report to
governor
and council.

admit him into the armoury for the purposes of inspection, and
the result of such inspections shall be annually reported by the
adjutant-general to the governor and council, at least thirty days
prior to the meeting of the general assembly.

When arms
&c. are re-
moved, to

SEC. 6. And be it enacted. That whenever any arms, accou-
trements, or other articles, deposited in the armouries as public
property, shall be removed therefrom, the armourer imme-
diately report the same to the adjutant-general, stating the pur-
poses for which they were so removed, and the authority under
which he acted.

Duty of
quarter-
master
general.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted. That it shall be the duty of the
quarter-master general, and the brigade and regimental quarter-
masters, whenever they have reason to believe that any of the
public arms are not properly preserved, or have fallen into the
possession of those who have no right to retain the same, or
that they may in any manner be lost to the state, to cause any
such arms to be seized and transmitted to the nearest state ar-
moury ; and it shall be the duty of any militia officer, having
knowledge of any arms so situated, immediately to report the
same to some one of said quarter-masters.

CHAPTER 114.

AN ACT to compensate the Adjutant-General of this State.
See 1834, ch. 251.

Salary
allowed.

SEC. 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and after the first day of January eighteen hundred
and thirty-one, the adjutant-general of this state be paid the
annual salary of three hundred and fifty dollars, from any unap-
propriated money in the treasury, as a compensation for his ser-
vices in issuing orders, receiving and making out correct returns
of the militia, and keeping regular files of such returns in his

office ; Provided, that previously to receiving any compensation
under this act, the said adjutant-general shall relinquish all
claim upon the state fqr past services in that department, and
that any act or resolution which might be construed to autho-
rize any such demand, be and the same is hereby repealed or
rescinded.

His duty.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of the
adjutant-general to report annually to the executive of this state,
on the first Monday in January, the strength of the militia,
designating all such commanding officers of corps, extra bat-
talions or companies, as have disobeyed his orders to make out

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That all resignations of commis-
sions be made through the adjutant-general of this state.
