AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION OF 1776

1818
Proposed by Act of 1817, chapter 51.
Ratified 1818.
The numbers and limits of election
districts in the City of Baltimore shall
always be the same as the wards therein.
Proposed by Act of 1817, chapter 61.
Ratified 1818. Sec. 1. All persons professing the
Christian Religion, who hold it unlaw-
ful to take an oath on any occasion shall
be allowed to make their solemn affir-
mation, in the same manner that Quak-
ers have heretofore been allowed to
affirm, which affirmation shall be of
same avail as an oath to all intents and
purposes whatever. Sec. 2. Before any such person shall
be admitted as a witness or Juror in any
Court of Justice in this State, the Court
shall be satisfied, by competent testi-
mony that such person is conscientiously
scrupulous of taking an oath.
Proposed by Act of 1817, chapter 189.
Ratified 1818.
In all appointments to be hereafter
made by the Executive, it shall be the
duty of the Governor, and he is hereby
required to nominate and by and with
the advice and consent of the Council
appoint all such officers as are directed
to be appointed by the executive, either
by the constitution or Laws of this State.
1821
Proposed by Act of 1820, chapter 69.
Ratified 1821.
All that part of the Constitution and
form of government made such by the
act of seventeen hundred and ninety
eight which directs that Queen Anne's
County shall be divided and laid off
into three separate districts be and the
same is hereby repealed.

Proposed by Act of 1820, chapter 85.
Ratified 1821.
Washington County shall be divided
into seven separate election districts and
that the election of the additional dis-
tricts shall be held as follows, the one
at the Town of Boonsborough, and the
other at Cave Town.
1822
Proposed by Act of 1821, chapter 35.
Ratified 1822.
Frederick County shall be divided and
laid off into eleven separate districts.
Proposed by Act of 1821, chapter 38.
Ratified 1822.
[The appointed commissioners] are
hereby appointed and authorized, or a
majority of them, or a majority of sur-
vivors of them, commissioners to lay off
and divide anew all that part of Balti-
more County without the limits of Balti-
more City, not, exceeding twelve sepa-
rate election districts carefully making
the several districts as nearly equal as
possible ....
Proposed by Act of 1821, chapter 123.
Ratified 1822. Sec. 1. All that part of the Constitu-
tion and form of government, which re-
lates to fixing the place of holding the
election in the second Election district
Anne Arundel County, be and the same
is hereby repealed. Sec. 2. The election shall be held in
the said election district at such places
as shall hereafter, from time to time, be
provided by law for the holding thereof.

Ratified 1822.
Dorchester County shall be divided
into Six separate election districts.
