CONSUMER PROTECTION

LETTER FROM MARYLAND CONSUMERS ASSOCIATION, INC., TO THE
CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION COMMISSION

OCTOBER 27, 1966

Mr. John C. Brooks, Executive Director
Maryland Constitutional Convention
Commission
700 Mercantile Trust Building
Baltimore, Maryland 21202

Dear Mr. Brooks:

The Maryland Consumers Association,
Inc. was established January 11, 1962
and since that time it has been working
on various programs designed to protect
the interests of the consumers of the
State of Maryland.

Since your Commission is reviewing
the State Constitution at the present
time, it is the feeling of our Association
that there should be included some
provision for the protection of the con-

sumer through the establishment of a
Bureau for Consumer Protection. This
Bureau would be charged with the
responsibility of working with and co-
ordinating the activities of the many
-groups and organizations now actively
working in this area.

We will be glad to furnish additional
information or provide experienced peo-
ple to testify in this area if you will let us
know.

We sincerely hope that you will let us
have your observations at an early date.

Sincerely,

W. W. FALCK,
Secretary-Treasurer

STATEMENT BY MARYLAND COURT CLERKS' ASSOCIATION TO THE
CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION COMMISSION

Circuit Court Clerks are one of the
original elected constitutional officers of
the State of Maryland and traditionally
have been the administrative head of
our Circuit Courts. The law providing

that the Clerk act in the absence of the
Judge in entering up judgments and per-
forming other functions indicates the
independent responsibility required to
properly serve the public.
