State Planning Commission

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 88C, §§ 6-7.

Head: Chairman appointed by the governor.

Members: 9 members, 7 appointed by the governor, and ex officio: one from
House of Delegates, appointed by speaker; and one from Senate,
appointed by the president.

Term: 4 years, staggered.

Removal: No statutory provision.

Employees: No statutory provision.

Function: Advise and assist the director of planning in the performance of
his duties.

Head: Director of State planning.

Members: Director^ppointed by the governor.

Term: Indefinite.

Removal: Serve at the governor's pleasure.

Employees: Director appoints and removes staff in accordance with merit sys-
tem Md. Code Ann., art. 88C, §§ 4(b), 5. Director may appoint
two members of the staff outside provisions of merit system to
serve at his pleasure.

Function: Functions as the governor's staff agency in planning matters and
prepares and keeps up-to-date a program for development and
effective employment of all state resources.

Established By: J. R. No. 3, 1966.

Head: Executive director appointed by the Commission.

Members: 10, appointed by the governor.

Term: Indefinite.
