Upper Potomac River Commission

Established By: Chapter 409, Acts of 1935.

Head: Chairman appointed by the governor,

Members: 3: 1 appointed by the governor, 1 by the commissioners of
Allegany County and 1 by the commissioners of Garrett
County.

Term: 6 years.

Function: Has jurisdiction over the water resources of Allegany County,
Election District Number 4 (Bloomington) in Garrett
County, and Savage River Dam,

Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 43 §§ 407-08.

Head: Chairmanship rotates among participating state members.

Members: 3 Maryland representatives: governor serves ex officio; appoints
two additional members and an alternate _to the governor.

Term: 2 years concurrent.

Removal: At the pleasure of the governor.

Function: To coordinate and disseminate information to promote clear
water programs; recommend standards for cleanliness of streams.

Interstate Advisory Committee on the Susquehanna River Basin

Established By: Executive Order, I960.

Head: Chairmanship rotates among member states.

Members: 12, 2 appointed by the governor and 2 by the legislative
branch of each state.

Function: To coordinate an overall study program conducted by the
Army Corps of Engineers and present the point of view
of the states.

Maryland Geological Survey

Head: Chairman designated by the Commission from its membership.
Director and directors of survey are appointed by the Commission
in accordance with merit provisions.
