APPENDIX

Employees: Part-time employees exempt. Members of the Commission
exempt. Director exempt from merit system. At present
there are 190 merit and 17 unclassified employees.

Function: To consider resource development in the Chesapeake Bay and
other tidal waters of the State—economic and social view-
points. Commission acts in an advisory capacity to director.

Department of Game and Inland Fish

09.03.00.01

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 66C, §§ 14, 113-125

Head: Chairman and vice-chairman designated by Commission from its
membership. Commission also appoints director.

Members: 5, appointed by the governor, to represent geographical areas of
the State

Term: 5 years—staggered. Chairman and vice-chairman, one-year term.

Removal: The governor may remove a commissioner for inefficiency, neglect
of duty or misconduct in office. Director serves under merit provis-
ions. Md. Code Ann., art. 64A.

Employees: Part-time employees exempt from the merit system. At present
there are 14 merit and 37 unclassified employees.

Function: Enforces the game and fresh water fish laws, administers state-
owned game areas and fish hatcheries.

Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission

Established By: State participation ratified by Chapter 435, Acts of 1941.

Head: Chairmanship rotates among participating state members.

Members: 3 from Maryland: director of Chesapeake Bay Affairs, a legislator
on the Intergovernmental Cooperation Commission (both ex
officio)
and a state resident with expertise in marine affairs ap-
pointed by the governor.

Term: 3 year term for gubernatorial appointee.

Removal: No statutory provision.

Employees: 2 employees.

Function: To advise on programs which aid the development of joint pro-
grams dealing with particular species of fish or bodies of water
common to two or more states.
