State Board of Canvassers

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 33, §§ 142-43.

Members: Secretary of state, comptroller, state treasurer, clerk of the Court
of Appeals, and attorney general.

Term: For duration of term of office.

Removal: No provision.

Employees: None.

Function: To meet thirty days after any state election to tabulate the votes
cast for each candidate from the certified statement of votes made
by the city and county canvassers; declare the winner and deliver
a certification of election to the secretary of state.

State War Ballot Commission

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 33, § 260.

Head: Governor.

Members: Governor, secretary of state, attorney general, the presiding
officer of each house of the General Assembly, the minority leader
of each house, ex officio, and two persons (not of the same political
party) appointed by the governor.

Term: For duration of term of office.

Removal: Not specified.

Employees: Secretary of state acts as secretary to the Commission.

Function: To administer the absentee voting law; make necessary regula-
tions and provide assistance to the local election boards.

State Law Department

Established By: Md. Code Ann., art. 41, § 199; art. 32A.
Head: Attorney general.

Members: Attorney general elected at general election. Md. Const., art. V,
§1-

Term: 4—years Md. Const., art. V, § 1.

Removal: Subject to removal for incompetency, willful neglect of duty or
misdemeanor in office, on conviction by court of law. Md. Const.,
art. V, § 1.
