On motion of Mr. Waters,
Leave of absence for one week was granted Mr. Davis of
Washington, in consequence of illness in his family.
On motion of Mr. Stephenson, it was
Ordered, That the President appoint a committee of five to
prepare and report rules for the government of the Senate;
but until said committee report, and their report be adopted,
the rules governing the Senate at its last session, be the rules
for the government of the Senate at its present session.
The President thereupon appointed Messrs. Stephenson,
Mules, Compton, Broadwater, and Davis of Washington, as
the Select Committee.
On motion of Mr. Stephenson, it was
Ordered, That His Excellency, the Governor, be respect-
fully requested to transmit to the Senate a copy of the returns
made to his office of the election for Senators held the 6th of
November last; and that the Secretary of the Senate furnish
the Governor with a copy of this order.
On motion of Mr. Henkle, it was
Ordered. That the Comptroller inform this House, at the
earliest possible day, who have been the bidders for the State
printing, under the contract system, including the State Con-
vention and the sessions of the Legislatures for 1865, 1866
and 1867; the names of the bidders for the respective years,
and the amount paid for printing the proceedings and debates
of said Convention, and the amount paid, respectively, for
each session of the Legislature for printing the laws, the
journal of both branches of the Legislature, and the docu-
ments, bills, &c., contracted for, and the amonnt paid, re-
spectively, for any of the items named, and which were or-
dered by either branch of the Legislature, as well as the bills
and receipts of the contracting parties, copies of their bonds,
and of the proposals for said printing, and such other infor-
mation as will fully inform the Senate of the contract system
for printing, and the cost for the different branches of the
same.
On motion of Mr. Vickers,
Leave was granted to Messrs. Vickers, Waters and Davis
of Caroline, to introduce a bill to incorporate the village of
Sassafrass, in Kent county,
