Amend section four by adding at the end thereof the words
"Provided that nothing therein contained shall conflict with
the laws of the United States, or of the State of Maryland."

Amend section by striking out "Five hundred" in line 1
and 2, and inserting "Fifty."

Pending the consideration of said amendments,
On motion by Mr. Mackall,

The Senate adjourned .until to-morrow morning at 10
o'clock.

THURSDAY, March 21, 1867.

Mr. Billingslea presented the petition of citizens of Carroll
county, against any legislative action whereby the existing
restrictions for the observance of the Christian Sabbath would
be relaxed;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Judi-
cial Proceedings.

The President laid before the Senate a communication from
the county commissioners of Carroll county, in obedience to
an order of the Senate;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Finance.

The bill entitled, an act to appropriate a sum of money to
pay Edward W. Curriden, for publishing the laws of January
session, 18G5,

Was read the third time and passed by yeas and nays as
follows:

AFFIRMATIVE.

Davis, of Washington,
Earle,
Frazier,
Jump,
Mackall,
Mules,

Philpot,
Spates,
Stephenson,
Trail,
Vickers
Waters,
Young — 14.

NEGATIVE—None.
Said bill was then returned to the House of Delegates.

The President appointed Senator Henkle to fill the vacancy
on the Committee of engrossed bills.
