to furnish stationary and fuel to Registers of Wills, the pro-
ceeds of whose office do not amount to the sum of two thou-
sand five hundred dollars.

At 12 o'clock, M., the Senators proceeded to the Hall of the
House of Delegates for the purpose of convening in Joint As-
sembly with that Body for the election of United States Sena-
tor.

The Senators at 1 o'clock, P. M., returned and resumed the
ordinary busines of the session.

The hour having arrived for proceeding to the election of
State Treasurer, the ballots were deposited in the ballot box,
which was delivered to Messrs. Earle and Ohr, who con-
jointly with the Committee of the House of Delegates, retired,
and after a time returned and reported that there had been
ninety-eight votes cast, of which number Robert Fowler re-
ceived seventy-six votes; Thomas Gorsuch received seventeen
votes; Jacob Tome, two votes; Robert Bruce, one vote, and
that there were two blank votes:

Whereupon it was declared that Robert Fowler is duly
elected Treasurer of the State of Maryland.

The Senate resumed the consideration of the unfinished
business of yesterday, being the bill entitled An Act, to pro-
vide for the payment of the officers of Registration of the
State, their officers and expenses.

On motion of Mr. Stephenson,

The bill was re-committed to the Committee on Judicial
Proceedings, and ordered to be printed.

Mr. Earle moved a suspension of the rules to enable him to
report a bill from the Committee on Finance.

Determined in the affirmative.

Mr. Earle, from the Committee on Finance, to which was
referred the bill entitled An Act, to refund Taxes erroneously
paid by William Gilmor and Robert Gilmor, Jr., of Balti-
more city, reported it with the following amendments:

AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.

Amend 1st Section by striking out in second line the words
" and required."

Amend 2d Section by striking out all of said section after
the word " eight" in the sixth line.

Pending its consideration,

Mr. Jump moved that the Senate adjourn.

Determined in the affirmative by yeas and nays, as follow:
