On motion by Mr. Bowie, it was

Ordered, that W. H. Guy have leave of absence for there-
mainder of the session, and that James T. Haines be appoint-
ed Folder to the Senate;

Mr. Maddox moved that the Senate proceed to the con-
sideration of the bill entitled, an Act to alter and amend an
Act entitled, an Act to add a new Article to the Code of Pub-
lic General Laws, to be entitled, Public Instruction" pro-
viding a uniform system of Free Public Schools for the State,
of Maryland, and to repeal all existing laws inconsistent there-
with passed at the January session, 1865;

On the question being put, it was

Determined in the negative by yeas and nays as follow:

Mr. Billingslea submitted the following:

Ordered, That the Comptroller be, and he is hereby direc-
ted to report to this Body, how many of the members and
officers of the extra session of the Legislature of 1861, held
in the city of Frederick, have been paid under the law passed
at this session for that purpose, and how much each has receiv-
ed.

Which was read and adopted.

The President announced the order of the day being the
bill entitled, an Act to provide for the restoration of the re-
cords, indexes, dockets and papers destroyed or injured by
fire in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Balti-
more county;

Mr. Vickers moved that the order of the day be postponed
for 15 minutes,

Determined in the affirmative.

Mr. Maddox moved a call of the Senate,

The Sergeant-at-Arms was sent to inform the absent Sena-
tors that their presence was required in the Senate Chamber.

Mr. Vickers moved that all further proceedings under, the
call be dispensed with;
