Which wag read, assented to and sent to the House of

Delegates.

Mr. Waters asked to be excused from further service on
the Committee on Engrossed bills ;

Mr. Waters was excused.

The hour of 12 o'clock having arrived, the Senate

On motion by Mr. Henkle,

In accordance with the Act of Congress, chapter 245, en-
titled, an Act to regulate the time and manner of holding
elections for Senators in Congress, the Senate proceeded to
hold an election for a Senator to fill a vacancy in the Senate
of the United States ;

Senator Earle nominated the Hon. Philip Francis Thomas,
of Talbot county ;

Senator Billingslea nominated the Hon. John A. J. Cres-
well, of Cecil county ;

Senator Frazier nominated the Hon. John W. Crisfield, of
Somerset county;

The roll of Senators being called, it appeared by a viva
voce vote of each Senator present, (a majority of all the mem-
bers elected to the Senate being present and voting) that the
Hon. Philip Francis Thomas received 15 votes;

That the Hon. John A. J. Creswell received 5 votes; and
that the Hon. Jobn W. Crisfield received 1 vote ;

So it appeared that the Hon. Philip Francis Thomas had
received a majority of all the votes cast.

Mr. Earle, from the Committee on Finance, reported a bill
entitled, an Act to procure suitable frames to contain the ad-
dress of Gen. George Washington, delivered on the occasion
of the resignation of his commission as commander-in-chief
of the American armies ;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Earle, from the Committee on Finance, reported a
bill entitled, an Act to pay Cushing & Bailey, J. E. & G.
Munroe and Thomas A. Makibbin ;

Which was read the first time.

Mr. Earle, from the Committee on Finance, reported a bill
entitled, an Act to assist the Children's Aid Society, in the
city of Baltimore, to develope and carry out their charitable
purposes, which was read the first time.

Mr. Earle, from the Committee on Finance, reported a bill
