by the shortest and most practicable route in a
southern or southwestern direction, through Ha-
gerston, in said county, to the Potomac River,
and to bridge the same from any part of said line,
correcting with a crossing and railroad now made
or authorized to be made in this State, and for the
purpose of laying off and constructing said road
or roads; they shall have all powers and privileges
and be subject to all the requirements and liabili-
ties hereinafter described, and they may take and
adopt the route or routes which to them may seem
most suitable any proper.

Repairs.

Sec. 12. And be it enacted. That the President
and Directors of said company shall be and they
are hereby invested with all the rights and powers
necessary for the repairs of said railroad, and they
may enter upon, use and excavate any land which
may be needed for said railroad, may build
bridges, fix scales and weights, lay rails and may
take and use any earth, timber, gravel, stone or
other materials which may be needed in order to
the proper construction of said road.

May borrow
money.

Sec. 13. And be it enacted, That for the purpose
of constructing and equipping said railroad the
said company is hereby authorized to borrow
money to any amount not exceeding one million
of dollars, the interest thereon to be paid semi-
annually and to issue coupon bonds therefor in
sums not less than one thousand dollars, and to
secure the payment of said bonds and their inter-
est by executing and delivering to such trustees as
they shall select a mortgage or mortgages of all
or any part of said property.

Assent of the
State.

Sec. 14. And be it enacted, That the full and
entire assent of the State of Maryland be and is
hereby given to the provisions of any law now en-
acted or that may hereafter be enacted by the
General Assembly of Maryland authorizing the
borrowing of money by the said Railroad Com-
pany to any amount not exceeding one million of
dollars, the interest thereon to be paid semi-annu-
ally, for the construction and equipment of said
company's road, and the issuing of bonds therefor
and the mortgaging of all or any part of the same
situated and being in the State of Maryland for
the securing of said bonds with their interest.
