CHAPTER 216.

AN ACT to incorporate the "Gwynn's Falls Bridge
Company of the Washington Road."

Incorporate

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That S. B. Sexton, William G.
W. Jaeger, Willim E. Woodyear, Peter Kep-
liart, Charles Rittenhouse, Henry Smith, Mathias
Lintilicum, William Parmel, Michael Geagan and
G. P. Whitaker, and such others as may be asso-
ciated with them, and their successors, are hereby
incorporated and made a body politic, with autho-
rity to build, establish and keep in repair a bridge
over Gwynn's Falls on the bed of the old turnpike
road, leading from Baltimore City to Washington
City, District of Columbia, which bridge shall be
of the width of not less than sixteen feet, and shall
be made of good and substantial material, with
suitable abutments and secure railings on each
side thereof.

Tolls.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted. That upon the com-
pletion of said bridge, the said company shall
keep the said bridge as a toll-bridge, with proper
gates and bars to secure the same, and to ask, de-
mand, and receive as toll for passage of said
bridge, the following sums of money, to wit: for
every horse and rider three cents, for every cart,
wagon or pleasure carriage with one horse, five .
cents; for every cart) wagon or pleasure carriage
with more than one horse, three cents per horse
additional, for every led horse, three cents, for cat-
tle two cents, sheep and swine, one cent.

Road to be
kept in good
condition.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That the company,
out of the receipts of toll from said bridge, shall
keep in good condition for travelling the road on
either side of said bridge to the distance of half a
mile therefrom.

Capital stock

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That the said com-
pany are authorized to have a capital stock of not
more than eight thousand dollars, to be divided
into shares of twenty-five dollars each, and at all
elections which may be held, each shareholder
shall be entitled to one vote for every share up to
