the adjoining land, claiming under grant from the
State issued since the date of the aforesaid patent
for said tract of land.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act
shall take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 208.

AN ACT to incorporate the "Maryland Slate
Company."

Incorporated.

. SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That George K. Jewett, William S.
Dennett, Charles H. Dennett, John H. Rice, Ben-
jamin 0. Foster and Charles A. Everett and such
other persons, or with them, or in their place,
shall become stockholders in said corporation their
successor's and assigns be and they are hereby cre-
ated a body corporate and politic by the name and
style of the "Maryland Slate Company," and by
that name may sue and be sued, answer and de-
fend in any Court of Law or Equity, and may or-
dain and establish such by-laws, rules and regu-
lations as shall appear necessary for conducting
the business of the corporators not contrary to the
laws of this State or of the United States, and may
have and use a common seal.

Powers of the
corporation.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted. That the said corpo-
rators, their successors and assigns are hereby
empowered to quarry slate in Frederick county,
State of Maryland, and to manufacture the same
into roofing slates, and prepare the same for all
uses of which slate susceptible, to vend the same
at such place or places as they may deem expe-
dient, to have, hold and acquire real estate and
personal property from time to time, with the
right to sell and dispose of the same as may be
deemed expedient to promote the interest of said
corporation.
