Williams, taxes paid in error. |

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the Commissioners of Tax
for Charles county be and they are hereby author-
ized to refund to the heirs of W. H Williams
taxes paid in error. |

Sec. 2. And be it enacted. That this Act shall
take effect from the date of its passage. |

AN ACT to encourage immigration to the State
of Maryland. |
Preamble. |
WHEREAS, in the altered condition of labor
brought about by the adoption of the new Consti-
tution, is involved a radical change in our system
of farming, as well as in our domestic and social
relations; and whereas, it becomes important to
encourage the immigration of capitalists and labor-
ers to our soil to provide for the wants which have
thus been enacted; therefore, |

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Dr. James Higgins, of Anne
Arundel county, be and he is hereby appointed
Immigrant agent of the State of Maryland, and
he is hereby empowered and directed to assume
and execute the several duties hereinafter pre-
scribed and devolved upon him. |
