Baltimore, (full length,) Governors Samuel Sprigg,
William Smallwood, John E. Howard, William
Paca, George Plater, Thomas Stone and Thomas
Johnson, with the conditions that they shall be
kept and properly preserved by the State, shall
not be taken away or removed from Annapolis,
and if determined to be parted with, shall be re-
stored to the donors; and whereas the State of Ma-
ryland has accepted the gift on the terms stipula-
ted; therefore,

restore and put
in a state of
preservation,
&c.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That James Hopkins and Son are
hereby employed to cleanse, restore and put in a
state for preservation the portraits of Lord Balti-
more, (full length,) of Governors Samuel Sprigg,
William Smallwood, John B. Howard, William
Paca, George Plater, Thomas Stone and Thomas
Johnson; that the said James Hopkins and Son
shall for this purpose reback said portraits with
proper and substantial canvass, shall put all the
portraits, except that of Lord Baltimore, in hand-
some heavy guilt frames, to be furnished at their
own cost and expense, shall have that repaired
and guilded also at their own cost, and shall have
them all completed in so skillfull and artistic man-
ner, as shall bring out all their virtues as works
of art, and restore them to their former freshness.

Certificate to
be given.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That on the comple-
tion of these works in a manner as shall secure the
approbation of the Governor of the State, he, the
aforesaid James Hopkins and Son shall have said
portraits hung by substantial fixtures in the Ex-
ecutive Chamber, when they shall be entitled to
receive a certificate from the Governor that the
work has been performed in compliance with their
contract.

Treasurer to
pay on war-
rant.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That on the presenta-
tion of the certificate of the Governor to the Comp-
troller of the Treasury he shall issue his warrant
on the Treasurer to pay to the order of James
Hopkins and Son, the sum of three hundred and
eighty-five dollars.

In force.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from and after the day of its passage.
