CHAPTER 48.

Passed Feb.
18, 1867.

AN ACT to incorporate the town of Ellicott's
Mills by the name of Ellicott City.

Incorporated
—power and
privileges.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That the inhabitants of the
town of Ellicott's Mills, in Howard and Balti-
more counties, be and they are hereby constituted
a body corporate by the name of the Mayor and
City Council of Ellicott City, and by that name
may sue and be sued, purchase and hold, real,
personal and mixed property, and may have and
use a common seal.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the limits of
said city shall be as follows, viz : Commencing at
the Arch Bridge, in Baltimore county, on the
Frederick Turnpike Road, below the Patapsco
Flour Mills, and from thence running up, and
with Cooper's branch, to the division line between
the property of the Granite Manufacturing Com-
pany and John Cavenaugh, thence by a straight
line to Major Peter's gate on the Patapsco Insti-
tute Road, thence from said point with a straight
line to a point on the Jonestown Road, where the
line of Major Peter and Gervard Manishur inter-
sect, thence from said point by a straight line to
the northwest corner of the house now occupied
by Leander Burgess, on the Frederick Turnpike
Road, thence from said point to Dr. Denny's
gate on the Columbia Turnpike Road, thence by
a straight line to Mrs. Frances Hazelhurst's gate,
and thence to the place of beginning.

Election of
Mayor & Com-
mon Council.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That the inhabitants
of said city, qualified to vote for delegates to the
General Assembly', who are now residents within
the corporate limits as described in the preceding
section, shall on the second Tuesday of April
next, between the hours of twelve o'clock at noon
and six o'clock in the evening, elect one person
at least twenty-five years of age as Mayor of said
city, and that they shall elect six persons, at least
twenty-one years of age, members of the Common
Council of said city, all of whom shall be resi-
dents within the limits of said city; and that no
