joy land, rents, stocks, and public securities in
this State, by purchase, gift, or devise, and the
same at their pleasure to sell, transfer, or lease in
such manner as they may judge conducive to the
benevolent and charitable uses of said society; |
Proviso, |
provided, that the whole amount of property which
the said society shall at any time hold shall not
exceed in value the sum of fifty thousand dollars. |
Capable in
law to sue and
be sued. |
Sec. 2. And be it also enacted. That the said cor-
poration, by the name aforesaid, shall be able to
sue and be sued in all or any courts of justice at
law or in equity, and may have and keep a com-
mon seal for their use, and change the game from
time to time as they may think best, and in gen-
eral have all such rights, franchises and immuni-
ties as by law are incident and accessary to corpo-
rations of this kind, and that may be necessary to
enable its members duly to execute all things con-
cerning its designs and intents, which are for the
benevolent succor and relief of such distressed
persons, (Englishmen, colonists, or their descend-
ants) as the regulations and by laws of said corpo-
ration may authorize, and generally to effect the
charitable objects of their institution. |
Reservation |
Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That the General As-
sembly reserves the right to alter, modify, or re-
peal this Act at pleasure. |

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the date of its passage. |
