CHAPTER 34.

Entitled, AN ACT to incorporate Slaughter's
Steamboat Company.

Passed Feb.
18, 1867.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
bly of Maryland, That Budd S. Ford, of Queen
Anne's; Joel C. Slaughter, of Kent; John J.
Shabb, Jacob Barkman and Samuel M. Lawder,
of Baltimore city, their associates, successors and
assigns, be and they are hereby created a corpora-
tion and body politic, by the name and style of
the Slaughter's Steamboat Company, and by that
name may have perpetual succession, and shall be
able and capable in law to sue and be sued, plead
and be impleaded, answer and be answered in any
Court of Law or Equity, and to make and use a
common seal, and to do and perform all such other
acts in relation to their business hereinafter de-
clared, and to establish such by-laws and regulations
as shall be necessary for conducting their affairs
not inconsistent with the laws of this State or of
the United States.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the object of
said corporation is a steam, passenger and freight
company, the buying or building of steamboats
and such other articles as may aid in carrying on
the said business in all its branches, and for which
purpose they are authorized to rent, purchase and
hold all necessary wharves, buildings, material,
boats, &c., which may be required for the conduct-
ing the business of a steam, passenger and freight
company.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted. That the capital
stock of said corporation shall not exceed one hun-
dred and fifty thousand dollars, and the shares
shall be one hundred dollars each.

gee. 4. And be it enacted, That the President
and Directors shall manage the business of said
corporation shall make all necessary rules, regu-
lations and by-laws for the conducting of its af-
fairs, shall appoint all officers and agents neces-
sary for the proper management of its business;
and also fix the compensation of the President of
the company.
