CHAPTER 1.
AN ACT for the relief of John Welch, a surety
on the bond of John Barnard, a former Sheriff
of Allegany county.
WHEREAS, It is represented to this General As-
sembly by the petition of John Welch, that said
Welch on the twenty-seventh day of December,
eighteen hundred and fifty, with John Warnick,
David Cusap and Walter Bevans, executed to the
State of Maryland a bond as sureties of John Bar-
nard, then Sheriff of Allegany county; and whereas.
on the twenty-second day of December, eighteen
hundred sixty-five, long after the death of all the
other parties to said bond, an action was instituted
in the Circuit Court for Allegany county against
the said Welch, to recover a balance of one hun-
dred and seventy-five dollars, alleged to be due
from said Barnard, for fines collected by him,
although but a small part thereof accrued during
the period covered by said bond, and notwithstand-
ing so long a time had elapsed since the said claim
originated during which the ability of the parties
to pay, had been much impaired, and whereas,
the circumstances set forth in said petition entitle
said Welch to the relief sought, therefore,
