On motion by Mr. Henkle,
Leave was granted to Messrs. Henkle, Bowie and Davis,, of
Caroline, to introduce a bill to provide for taking and pre-
serving testimony of the ownership of slaves in the State of
Maryland, emancipated by the Constitution adopted in 1864;
The clerk of the House of Delegates delivered the fol-
lowing bills:
A bill entitled, an Act to repeal section 4 of the 88th arti-
cle of the Code of Public General Laws entitled, Sheriffs, and
to re-enact the same with amendments ;
Which was read the first time and referred to the Commit-
tee on Judicial Proceedings.
Also, the bill entitled, an Act to compensate Francis A.
Prevost for services rendered as assistant clerk in the office of
the clerk of the Superior Court of Baltimore city, under Ed-
ward Bowling, late clerk thereof;
Which was read the first time and referred to the Commit-
tee on Finance.
A bill entitled, an Act to add certain additional sections to
article 26 of the Public General Laws of this State relating
to Corporations, in order to provide for the organization of.
Universities, Colleges, Hospitals and Asylums ;
Which was read the first time and referred to Messrs. Hen-
kle, Davis, of Washington, and Bowie.
Also delivered the following joint resolutions :
RESOLUTIONS
In favor of Frances Wimsatt and Ellen Wimsatt.
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Treasurer of Maryland be, and he is hereby directed on the
warrant of the Comptroller, to pay over to Frances Wimsatt
and Ellen Wimsatt, widows, respectively of Benedict; and
James L. Wimsatt, soldiers of the War of 1812, each in
quarterly p'ayments, the sum of eighty dollars ($80) per year
during their lives from the passage of this resolution ;
Which was read the first time and referred to the Commit-
tee on Finance.
