entitled, an Act to authorize William Krebs, Richard Lin-
thicum, and William Linthicum to build a bridge over
Gwynn's Falls, at or near where the present Bridge stands,
known as the Long Bridge, and to enact substitutes therefor;

Was taken up for consideration.

Mr. Stirling submitted the following amendment:

Amend section 1, line 10, strikeout the word 'arbitration,'
and insert 'arbitrators';

Which was read and adopted.

Mr. Henkle submitted the following amendment:

Amend at end of section 3, provided that in case the May-
or and City Council of Baltimore shall purchase the said
bridge from the present or future owners, in accordance with
the provisions of this Act, the said bridge shall be thereafter
a free bridge, and be kept in repair and good condition by the
said Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, so long as the
public convenience may require that it shall be so kept;

Mr. Stirling submitted the following amendment to the
amendment;

Strike out "shall" when it occurs, and insert "may;"

The question upon the adoption of the amendment, was
determined in the negative by yeas and nays as follow :
