vious to the meeting held October 27,1866, and a motion was
made at this meeting to adjourn to the 27th of October, for
the purpose of organizing a squad or company of armed men
to go to the polls on the day of election, and Dr. Ohr ap-
proved and sanctioned this motion. Captain Falkenetine
made a short speech at this meeting. This meeting of Octo-
ber 23d, and also the meeting October 27, were held in Ryan
Glade's School House in District No. 10, Allegany county,
Maryland. Upton F. Briggs was President of the meeting
that organized this company. Mr. James Chisholm, one of
the Judges of Election, was present at the mee'ting October
23d. He was afterwards at the meeting October 27, 1866,
and was appointed on the committee to draft resolutions.

4th Question. Do you know anything about the resolutions
passed at said meeting, Oct. 27th, 1866?

Answer. Nothing, particularly, except denouncing Gov-
ernor Swan hand President Johnson.

5th Question. Was it generally Understood after October
27th, 1866, in District No. 10, that an armed force Would be
at the polls, Nov. 6th, 1866 ?

Answer. It was generally understood.

Deposition No. 59.

JAMES BRAFFORD, being duly sworn, deposed and said as
follows, to wit:

By Mr. Devecmon:

1st Question. What is your name, age, residence and occu-
pation ?

Answer. My name is James Brafford; age 58; reside in
Dist. No. 10, Allegany county, Md., and am a farmer by
occupation.

2d Question. Do you know anything about a meeting held
by the Radicals in Ryan's Glades School House, District No.
10, Allegaay county, Md., Oct 23. 1366 ?

Answer. I was present at said meeting. Oct. 23d, 1866 ;
when I went into the meeting, Dr. Chas. H. Ohr was speak-
ing; in the latter part of his speech he advised his hearers to
secretly get up some ten or twelve men, and arm them, to
guard the Judges of Election; and Mr. James Chisholm, one
of the Judges of Election, then said nothing could be done
secretly at this meeting, but that a secret meeting would be
held on the Saturday evening following October 27th, 1866.

I did not go to the election, because I had not been long
enough in the county and State to entitle me to vote,
