Answer. My name is David A. Gower, aged 21, live in
District No. 10, Allegany county, Md.; a farmer by occupa-
tion.

2d Question. When did you register ?

Answer. In, September, 1866, in District No. 10.

3d Question. Did you attend the polls at the election held
in District No. 10, Allegany county, Md., November 6, 1866 ;
did you offer to vote, and was your vote accepted or refused,
and whose names were on your ticket as candidates for House
of Delegates ?

Answer. I attended said election , offered to vote, and the
Judges asked me to come inside; I t.old them if they could
not take my vote outside, they could not take it at all; the
names of the parties on my ticket as candidates for House of
Delegates were, Wm. Devecmon, Wm. A. Bryden, Patrick
Hammil, George W. McCulloh and John McElfish.

Cross-examined by Mr. Brown.

1st Question. What was the meaning of the invitation to
go inside ?

Answer. We generally voted from the outside, and I sup-
pose the reason they wished me to go inside was to take an
oath; I was not old enough in 1865 to be registered; I saw
the Judges of Election on the inside give tickets to voters.

Answer. My name is John Ridder; age, 29; live in Dis-
trict No. 10, Allegany county, Maryland; a,nd by occupation
a farmer.

2d Question. When did you register ?
Answer. In September, 1866, in District No. 10.

3d Question. Did you attend the election held in District
No. 10, Allegany county, Maryland, November 6, 1866; did
you offer to vote; was your vote accepted or rejected; and
whose names were on your ticket as candidates for House of
