your vote accepted or refused; whose names were on your
ticket as candidates for House of Delegates?

Answer. I attended said election; I offered to vote, but the
Judges refused my ticket; they would not listen to me, and
offered me no oath. The names on my ticket as candidates
for House of Delegates were William A. Bryden, William
Devecmon, John McElfish, Patrick Hammil and George W.
McCulloh. I offered to vote about noon.

Cross-examined by Mr. Brown.

1st Question. Did the Judges offer you an oath ?
Answer. No; they would not listen to me.

Deposition No. 23.

DAVID S. ARNOLD, being duly sworn, deposed and said as
follows, to wit:

By Mr. Devecmon :

1st Question. What is your name, age, residence and occu-
pation ?

Answer. My name is David S. Arnold; age, 88; reside in
District No. 10, AUegany county, Md., and am a farmer.

2d Question. When did you register ?
Answer. In September, 1866.

3d Question. Did you attend the election held in District
No. 10, Allegauy county, Md., Nov. 6th, 1866; did you offer
to vote; was your vote received or rejected; whose names were
on your ticket as candidates for House of Delegates?

Answer. I attended said election; offered to vote, but the
Judges refused my vote, and did not offer to swear me; the
names on my ticket as candidates for House of Delegates
were Wm. A. Bryden, Wm. Devecmon, George W, McCul-
loh, John McElfish and Patrick Hammil.

4th Question. Was there any armed force at the polls?

Answer. There were men there armed with gune and pis-
tols; I suppose about twenty armed men were there; I was
at the polls about one hour and a half.

1st Question. Why did you not register in 1865 ?
Answer. I did not go to be registered in 1865.

2d Question. Did the Judges give any reason for refusing
your vote ?
