Mr; Nicolai (the rules being suspended) offered the follow-
ing:
Ordered, That the Chairman of the Committee on Claims
be directed to issue his warrant for one hundred dollars to
each of the officers of this House, for the courteous and effi-
cient manner in which they have discharged their duties
through and after the regular session, as well as an appre-
ciation of the spirit of patriotism exhibited by them in .re-
maining after the expiration of the regular session, provided
that nothing herein contained shall be construed to allow
more than one hundred dollars extra compensation to any
officer of the House for this session.
Mr. Smith proposed the following amendment:
Insert after the word "officers" "and chaplains ;"
Which was rejected.
