Which was read a first time.
The Secretary of the Senate delivered a bill entitled, an
Act for the relief of the securities on the bond of John D.
Nabb, former Collector of the State taxes in Talbot county ;
Which was read a first time and \ eferred to the Committee
on Claims.
Also, a bill entitled, an Act to alter, amend, and add new
sections to the Act of 1865, chapter 160, entitled, an Act to
add a new Article to the Code of Public General Laws to be
entitled, "Public Instruction," providing a uniform system
of free public schools for the State of Maryland ;
Which was read a first time and referred to the Committee
on Education.
Also, a bill entitled, an Act to provide by law for taking
and perpetuating the evidence of the number of persons held
to labor and service in the State of Maryland, and emancipa-
ted by the Constitution adopted in the year 1864, and by
whom such persons were so held;
Which was read a first time and referred to the Committee
on the Judiciary.
Also, a bill entitled, an Act to repeal an Act passed at tie
January session, 1867, entitled, an Act to repeal the 4th,
7th, 15th and 20th sections of the 4th Article of the Local
Laws of the city of Baltimore, relative to the qualification of
elctors in said city, and. regulating the times for holding
elections for Mayor and the members of the City Council,
and'the terms of, and the time for entering upon the duties
of said offices, and to re-enact the same with amendments :
and also to repeal the 4th, 7th, 15th, 16th, 20th, 26th, 213th
and 222nd sections of the 4th Article of the Code of Public
Local Laws relating to the city of Baltimore and the election
of Mayor and members of the City Council of said city, their
terms of office respectively, the times of entering upon the
duties of their offices respectively, and to amend and re-enact
said sections, and to repeal an Act passed at January session,
1867, entitled, an Act to repeal section 227 of Article 4 of
the Code of Public Local Laws relating to elections in the
city of Baltimore, and to re-enact the same with amendments,
and to amend and re-enact said section 227 ;
Which was read a first time and referred to the Committee
on the Judiciary.
Also, returned the bill entitled, an Act to pay A. Lingan
Jarrett the balance of his salary as late Comptroller of the
Treasury.
Endorsed, "passed by yeas and nays."
