Mr. Jones, Chairman Joint Committee, made the following
report:

The Joint Committee of the General Assembly appointed
to present to His Excellency, Governor Swann, the resolu-
tions of the two Houses upon his declination of the office of
Senator of the United States, respectfully report that they
have performed that duty, and herewith present to the two
Houses a copy of their remarks to Governor Swann on the
occasion, and of the Governor's reply.

On motion, Mr. Waltemeyer moved that ten thousand
copies be printed for the use of the House.

Mr. Davis, of Baltimore city, moved that the report be
entered on the Journal and five thousand extra copies be
printed.

Mr. Bishop moved that two hundred and fifty copies be
printed for the use of the House.

Mr. Burche moved that one thousand copies be printed.

The report and motions to print were referred to the Com-
mittee on Printing.

The House then took up for consideration the next order of
the day, being the bill entitled, an Act to provide for the
erection of a new Maryland State Penitentiary, and to dis-
pose of the present Maryland State Penitentiary:

Said bill being upon a second reading.
Pending which,

The Secretary of the Senate returned the bill entitled, an
Act for the extension of the powers of the bailiff of the town
of Easton in Talbot county.

Also the bill entitled, an Act to enable the directors of the
Maryland Institution of the Blind to complete and render fit
