Which were read and severally referred to Caroline and
Qneen Anne's delegations.

Mr. McCulloh presented the memorial of one hundred and
seventy-six citizens of Frostbnrg, Allegany county, praying
the Legislature to pass a law to prevent the sale of any in-
toxicating liquors within four miles of said town;

Which was read and referred to Allegany delegation.
On motion of Mr. Neilson,

Ordered, that the petitions presented to this House for and
agajnst the running of the City Passenger Railway Cars on
Sunday be transferred to the Senate;

On motion of Mr. Burche,

Ordered, that while this House recognizes the right of pe-
tition by the citizens of the State, no delegation of citizens
will hereafter be received on this floor for the purpose of pre-
senting petitions, memorials or other papers, and addressing
the House in relation to same:

On motion of Mr. Feig,

Ordered, that Mr. Lankford be excused from attending this
House on to-morrow, for the purpose of attending to pressing
business;

On motion of Mr. Criswell,

Ordered, that it be entered on the Journal that Mr. Wain-
pier member from Carroll is absent from his seat on account
of sickness;

The Private Secretary of the Executive, Peter Leary, Esq.,
delivered the following:

STATE OF MARYLAND, -

EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT,
ANNAPOLIS, March 1st, 1867.
To the Senate and House of Delegates :

GENTLEMEN :—I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt
of an official communication from the President of the Sen-
ate and Speaker of the House of Delegates, informing me
that the General Assembly of Maryland had elected me a
Senator of the United States for the term of six years-from
the 4th of March, 1867.

This honor has been conferred upon me, as is well known
to the members of the Legislature and my friends through-
out the State, without any agency or solicitation on my part.

It had been my purpose, in response to the action of your
Honorable Body and what was then the wish of the people
of the State, to have accepted the high trust; and I had so
