On motion of Mr. Davis, of Charles,
The House took up for consideration,

The bill entitled, an Act to repeal sections 1 and 3 of sub-
section 4 of chapter 160 of the Act of January session, 1865,
providing for a uniform system of Free Public Schools for the
State of Maryland and re-enact the same with amendment;

Said bill being upon its second reading,

Mr. Davis, proposed the following amendment.

Amend sub-section 1, in line 13, strike out "three" and in-
sert "two;"

Which was adopted.

Amend section 3, in line 10, strike out the words "and
fifty;"
Which was adopted;

On motion of Mr. Davis. of Charles,
The bill was then referred to the Committee on Education.

Mr. Parsons presented the petition of lumber dealers and
merchants of Salisbury, Somerset county, Maryland, against
the passage of a Boom bill;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Corpo-
rations.

Mr, Carmichael presented the petition of Lloyd Tilghman,
Dr. C. C. Harper, Col. John R. Emory, Wm. Barcns and 90
other citizens of Queen Anne's county, asking a modification
of the Sunday Law;

Which was read and referred to the Select Committee on
Sunday Law.

Mr. Ford presented the petition of J. Howard McHenry
and others, praying for a reduction of tolls on the Reisters-
town road.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on the Ju-
diciary.

Mr. Neale presented the memorial of twenty-five citizens
of Cecil county against erecting booms in the Susquehanna
river;

Mr. Golibart presented the memorial of twenty citizens of
