levied in said county, and by giving said county credit; for
the amount apportioned to it as aforesaid, paying to said
county the difference between the amount which should have
been levied, and the amount apportioned, said difference to be
subject to abatement and insolvencies;

Which was read a first time.

On motion of Mr. Burch, (the rules being suspended,)

Leave was granted the Committee on Corporations to in-
troduced a bill to amend chapter 57, of the Act of the Gen-
eral Assembly of the State of Maryland, passed January ses-
sion, 1866, relating to the Maidens Choice Passenger Rail-
way Company;

Mr. Jones, (the rules being further suspended,)

Presented the petition of George Reall and a large num-
ber of citizens of Somerset county, for relief from the oppres-
sive operation of the oyster license law;

Also, the petition of George A. J. Hopkins and numerous
other citizens of Somerset county, for relief from the oppres-
sive operation of the oyster license law;

Also, the petition of Oliver P. Insley and numerous other
citizens of Somerset county, for relief from the oppressive ope-
ration of the oyster license law;

Which were severally referred to the Committee on Ways
and Means.

Also, the petition of inhabitants of Holland's Island to be
annexed to Somerset county;

Which was referred to Messrs. Jones, Phelps and Kerr.

The Secretary of the Senate returned the resolutions in re-,
lation to the power of the Legislature to alter and amend 'the
Organic law of State;

Endorsed, "passed by yeas and nays."

Also, returned the bill entitled, an Act to repeal sections
12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 of an Act to incorporate the
Maryland Life Insurance Company of Baltimore, and to re-
enact in lieu thereof, sections 8, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and
18, as within recited;

Endorsed, "passed by yeas and nays," with proposed
amendments.

AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.

After the word section and before the words, "section 8,"
insert the following:
